Turning raw EMF noise into Cinematic SFX

If you listen to EMF sounds without any lateral thinking, they can seem desperately boring—mostly just glitchy noise that may or may not be useful for said effects. BUT if you start digging beneath the surface, you might discover a plethora of cool sounds patiently waiting to be sculpted and revealed. And at the end of the day, I think it can also be an awesome exercise to stretch our creative muscles.

Here are 6 examples from an EMF sound library I recorded, edited, and later processed for this purpose—raw and designed assets played back to back. (Some of these are downmixed versions of the original multi-channel assets.)

TIMESTAMPS:

• 0:00 - Oil Diffuser into Cinematic Tinnitus

• 0:19 - Audio Gear into Plasma Beam

• 0:39 - Air Fryer into Drone

• 0:57 - Body Parts into Screaming Riser

• 1:22 - Train Coach into Giant Robotic Dragonfly

• 1:40 - Train Coach into Magical Crystal Ball
